Condolences
We have been away, so late in offering our condolences on Royden’s passing. We have many fond memories of the early CT years in Ontario, (Les in Walkerton) before moving beyond a short drive between stores. Royden’s exuberance was infections; we didn’t think he knew the word ‘impossible’ even existed! May the memories of all your wonderful years as a family help you through this difficult time. God bless you all,
Les and Carol Ann

I can’t believe that Royden is gone. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and a great friend. He loved you all that was so evident. He brought laughter, joy and fun into your lives. His spontaneity, love of life, laughter and smile were contagious. Nothing was more important to him that family. He lived life to the fullest, there was no such thing as a glass half full. Royden had the abilty to make people feel at home. Thinking of you all at this difficult time – may the memories you made with him stay with you forever and get you through this time. Live, love and laugh and you’ll do him proud.
Darlene, Doug, Cathy & family:
We are so sorry to hear of Royden’s passing. I have many great memories of times spent with Royden. When I drive down Oliver Rd. past the Whitney residence I often think of the times I spent there with the family, eating Ma Whitney’s tea biscuits with strawberries and cream. Sometimes Royden would get his father’s car and we would go cruising. We often slept in the hay loft at Chercovers, then get up early to go horse back riding. Mary & I have fond memories of our visit with you in Calgary. Our ski trip to Banff with you and Royden and Ingrid & Satch and the hospitality you extended to us in your home. Royden and I even saddled up the horses and rode into the back country. We both have many fond memories of great times we spent together. Rest in peace Royden and may love surround your family at this sad time.
With deep sympathy and love,
Ken & Mary
Dear Darlene, Catherine, Doug-aka “Leaky”,
Please accept our sincere condolences at this time of sorrow. The fun times we had together at Springbank will be fondly remembered. In particular, the hockey games and libation after our many victories?!! Roy’s care and concern for others was an admirable attribute — he embraced life and was respected by all he knew. We will remember Roy as a respected businesssman, kind hearted philanthropist, and a loving, caring family man. Thank you, Roy, for your care, concern and positive influence in our lives.

I was so sorry and sad to hear of Mr. Whitney’s passing. He was one of the good ones for sure. Always laughing and a pure joy to be around. He gave me one of my first bits of advice when I started my business which I have tried my best to follow. He will be missed but not forgotten.

Words cannot likely alleviate the pain that you are all going through but we have been thinking about you since we heard the news.
I have nothing but fond memories of Uncle Royden. I always cherished the times that we spent together and was very appreciative of him taking the time to go out for dinner with me whether it was in Toronto or Calgary. He was someone that I looked up to, not only for advice on business but on life as well, and felt that I could talk to him about anything. He was truly a special uncle.
I will forever remember him for his great sense of humour, big laugh and constant smile on his face.
I know that this will be a difficult time for all but our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Royden, you have made all of our lives better for you being a part of it. For Auntie Darlene, Doug and Cathy and kids, please feel our arms around you at this very difficult time and know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Darlene – am sending prayers and hugs to you and your family. I still have the pictures of Royden with the bucket of smelts in our bathtub on High Street. Will always remember his great smile. I am right there with you in spirit. Once again love and prayers – Marj
To Darlene, Doug, Cathy and grandchildren …
Even though we are no longer neighbors, we have many happy memories of times in the neighborhood … building fences, lending and borrowing, barbeques, and the friendships of our children. Good memories are slow to fade!
May the strong ties of family and friends be your strength, and the wonderful memories of your husband, father and grandfather be your comfort.
You are in our prayers,
Ed and Mona

Dear Darlene – I was sad to hear of Royden’s passing. Don Graham and I were the Vancouver dealers starting in 1979 and were part of the BC/AB group of CTC. I met Royden many times at meetings and was his room mate on a couple of fishing trips to the QC Islands. Time spent with Royden was time well spent – he was fun to be with.
The best to you as you embark on this next phase of your life. Remember the good times as you move forward.
Love Vernon
Darlene and family; our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Keep your memories fresh in your hearts.
Love and prayers.

Hi Darlene, Cathy and Doug
I was so sorry to hear the news and want you to know you are in all our thoughts right now. What a difficult time it must be — and will be for a long time. I have such great memories of your husband/dad! …his laugh, his kind face, his fast boat up at Manitoulin! Those are just a few that come to mind…Take care of each other.

It was with great sadness we heard this morning of Royden’s passing. I have always enjoyed and treasured the friendship and great neighbours the Whitney’s have been to my family. As many of us, Royden’s laugh and smile first come to mind. From dinners at the Whitney’s to driving the boat till sundown so Doug and I could waterski, he was just fun to be around. Our love and prayers are with Darlene, Doug, Cathy and the Grandchildren.
Darlene

Dear Darlene, Doug, and Cathy:
I am stunned of the news of Royden’s passing and offer my sincere condolences.
I have fond memories of working at Store 302. Royden gave me many opprtunities to grow both as a person and a manager and am very thankfull for the the lessons he offered and his kindness to me.
I just recently was going through some pictures from my Calgary days and came across Ceasar the horse Royden sold me. The kid from the core area of Montreal with a horse, boy what a learning curve.
Very kind regards,
Paul (Pneu) Droulis
Dear Darlene, Cathy and Doug,
Jason just forwarded to me the sad news of Royden’s passing. I’ve been gone from Calgary a long time, but I wanted to pass on my condolences to all of you. Royden was always my favorite of the neighborhood dads. I have such fond memories of him, his humor and his big laugh.

Dear Darlene:
I was shocked and saddened to read of Royden’s passing. So untimely. My thoughts immediately went to you and how difficult a time this must be. I hope it is some consolation to hear from a friend from many years ago. The obituary, and your words from the PACI reunion, are testimoney to a life well lived, with many happy, shared moments.
May your mempories bring you some consolation and peace.
Sincerely,
Sheila
