Obituary of Laura Jeanne KENNEDY

May 2, 1958 – August 7, 2011 Laura Kennedy passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, from a brain tumour. Laura was born in Lethbridge, AB and completed high school in Solina, ON where she graduated as valedictorian of Courtice Secondary School. She attained her B.Comm degree from McMaster University where she met Ron. Shortly thereafter she earned her Chartered Accountant designation. After working for various accounting firms, Laura most recently was a partner at Kennedy Kroeker, Calgary. Her friendly and honest demeanour along with her intelligence and professionalism made her an asset to her clients. Her kind and loving character made her an admired wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Laura loved to spend time with her family and in May took a memorable trip to Europe with her daughter Danielle, returning to support her son Ian as he trained for and earned a spot on the Alberta Rowing Team. Her passion was quilting with her circle of friends and she enjoyed skiing with her children and mother, and curling with her husband. Laura is survived by her husband Ron; daughter Danielle; son Ian; mother Barbara Kapteyn; sisters, Leslie (Russ) Desjardins and Barbara (Richard) Oland; brother John (Christine) Kapteyn; mother-in-law Kay Kennedy; brothers-in-law Tim Kennedy (Debbie) and Allan Kennedy (Audrey). She was predeceased by her father James Kapteyn and father-in-law Corbett Kennedy. She will be sorely missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Laura’s family extends their deepest appreciation to everyone who supported them through this difficult period.
