Obituary of LUFT – Herman Lawrence

July 16, 1931 – July 29, 2011 Herman Lawrence Luft devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, papa and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2011 at the age of 80 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Herm was born on July 16, 1931 in Calgary, AB and grew up in the Bridgeland/Riverside area of Calgary. He displayed his indomitable spirit at the early age of ten when he delivered bread by horse drawn buggy in the cold Calgary winter. This spirit lead Herm to become an entrepreneur, running his successful printing company Rainbow Lithographers for well over twenty years. Herm married the love of his life Evelyn in 1958 and they were married for forty-nine years. He believed that one should always give back to the community and did so in many ways. Herm served as a member of the Kinsman/K40 Club of Calgary for over forty years, as well as countless boards and community associations. The world has lost a great craftsman, fisherman, cowboy, philanthropist, hobby farmer, and entrepreneur. Herm is survived by his sons Bruce and Doug Luft; daughter-in-law Sarah Andrews-Luft; four grandchildren Ethan, Zoe, Emma and Madeline Luft; as well as countless nieces and nephews. Herm was predeceased by his son Brian Luft in 1962, and Wife Evelyn in 2008. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through .
