Obituary of BRADLEY – James Barry

February 3, 1932 – July 26, 2011 James “Barry” Bradley passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the age of 79 years. Barry will be lovingly remembered by his soul mate and dear wife of fifty-seven years, Ella, and is also survived by his brother Clint (Beth); his children, Dave (Marsha), Mike (Karen) and Carla (Paul); as well as grandchildren, Amanda, Cole and Keira. We will miss him dearly and we all cherish the strong sense of family he so proudly gave us all. Barry was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, the son of Hazel and James Bradley and after graduating from Windsor school he attended United College. He then followed his dreams to become a pilot and while working in Northern Manitoba he met the love of his life. Ella and Barry were married in Winnipeg in 1954 then moved to Calgary where Barry studied Aeronautical Engineering at the Provincial Institute of Technology & Art (SAIT). This led them to Montreal in the spring of 1957 to start his career at Canadair. The call of the West brought them back to Calgary in 1965 with three young children and the start of what was to become Barry’s Life Membership with the Cu Nim Gliding Club; the source of many true friends and great memories. Calgary was home until he retired in 1993 after a successful career in technical sales. The snowbird adventure in Arizona started then and continued until the spring of 2011 with summers in Black Diamond and Okotoks. In addition to flying, Barry’s love of the outdoors is remembered by his many hiking, camping, canoeing, fishing and hunting expeditions with friends and family. He hung up his wings earlier this year but now he flies forever.
