Obituary of HOTCHKISS – Harley Norman

July 10, 1927 – June 22, 2011 Harley Hotchkiss passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in the arms of his loving wife Rebecca with his children by his side. Harley’s contributions to his community were enormous and are well documented. He loved his Calgary Flames and worked tirelessly to support our health care system. Notable among his achievements were his appointment as a Companion of The Order of Canada for his exemplary citizenship, and his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame for his leadership over his twelve year term as Chairman of the Board of Governor’s of the NHL through very challenging times. Despite his numerous accomplishments, Harley will best be remembered for the warmth and integrity in his dealings with all who knew him. His family was his greatest source of joy and his most special times were those spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They will each miss him profoundly. Above all else, Harley treasured Rebecca, his wife of almost sixty years. His quiet confidante in matters big and small, Harley acknowledged Rebecca as the glue of the family who made possible all his life’s accomplishments and successes. A Memorial Service will be held at First Alliance Church (12345 – 40th Street S.E.) on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all the medical and nursing staff for their professional care and their compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the University of Calgary, Hotchkiss Brain Institute at HRIC 1A10, 3330 Hospital Drive N.W., Calgary, AB, T2N 4N1.
