Obituary of VAN DER LEE – Stuart Ross

April 12, 1960 – May 28, 2011 After a lengthy illness, Stuart passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2011 with his family by his side. Stuart was born and lived all his life in Calgary. He will be greatly missed by his life-long friends from school and business. Stuart was renowned for his generous heart and rapier wit. He was a natural athlete, and throughout his life enjoyed playing hockey, golf and water skiing. During summers at Mabel Lake, “Big Stu”, as he was affectionately known, always had a smile on his face and always made time for one more water ski or tube ride, and room for one more at the table. Everyone was made to feel welcome, and were entertained nightly by Stuart’s amazing comedy routines, and renditions of hits from the 70’s and 80’s. But without a doubt, Stuart’s pride and joy was his family: his loving wife of thirty one years, Shirley; his children Stuart Ross (“Little Stu”), Fietje, and Garrick; and in more recent years, his daughter in law Germaeline and grandson Liam, who held a special place in his heart. We will miss his love and laughter, and his passing will take a little of the joy from all our lives. He was the much loved husband of Shirley, father of Stuart Ross (Germaeline), Fietje and Garrick (Nataliya), and grandfather to Liam. Stuart was predeceased by his parents, Arie and Joyce. He is also survived by his mother and father in law, Marina and Jim Adamson, his sister in law and brother in law Brenda and Dave Bishop, his brothers and sisters Marilyn (Richard) Keevil, David (Kathleen), Jean (Lary Mosley), Joyce Anne (Laurie) Smith, John (Sharon), Bill (Lorna), Bruce and Katrina (Ed Bettencourt), and his many nieces and nephews and their families.
