Obituary of MAXWELL – Helen Elizabeth

July 31, 1915 – May 1, 2011 Helen Maxwell of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 after a brief illness at the age of 95 years. Helen was born in Calgary on July 31, 1915 to Albert and Blanche Aikenhead. She attended Earl Grey School, Western Canada High School and the University of Alberta where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1936. At the U of A she played varsity tennis and badminton. She was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity. After moving back to Calgary, she worked in the library at Eatons where she met her future husband. She was extremely proud of her forty year contribution to the Children’s Hospital as a volunteer and was a long time member of Grace Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her children Lindsay (Shaun) Robinson of Edmonton, Don (Theresa) of Calgary and Sheila (Kelvin) Denike of Cochrane. She is also fondly remembered by her loving granddaughters, Maureen, Shelagh, Cathlyn, Melissa, Kim, Sara, Stephanie, Christy, Kari and Susan and ten great grandchildren. Helen is predeceased by her husband, John (1981) her sisters Marjorie and Marion and her brother Jack. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
