Obituary of MUENCH – Michele Anne

Our wonderful daughter, sister, wife and mother passed away peacefully on April 12, 2011 in Calgary. Born in Edmonton on November 24, 1965, Michele grew up in a home filled with activity along with two older brothers. She had a passion for athletics, excelling in soccer, figure skating and Irish dance. After graduating from the University of Alberta with a degree in education, Michele taught at both the junior high and high school levels in Prince George, Edmonton and St. Albert. She proved to be a gifted teacher and gained an immediate connection with her students. She later started a tutoring business in Calgary where she developed long lasting relationships with her students and their families. Michele’s greatest joy was her children. She left the classroom and worked as a stay at home mom, providing unconditional love and commitment to her boys. An unwavering faith led Michele on pilgrimages to Medjugorje, St. Joseph’s Oratory and Rome. As an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, she served the Church in many ways over the years, with particular focus on the healing and children’s ministries. Volunteering with Crowfoot Hockey, her children’s schools, the YMCA, and the ALS Society of Alberta provided other opportunities for Michele’s strong desire to help serve the community. Michele was an inspiration and blessing to many during the time of her illness. Her resolve and passion for life strengthened relationships and brought families closer together. Her quick wit, smile and warmth drew people to her and forged life long friendships. Michele was incredibly creative and skilled in decorating, sewing and craftwork. Many of her creations will last as a memory of her for those who received them. Michele is survived by her husband Doug, children Connor and Ethan, parents Sean and Gloria, and brother Paul. She was predeceased by her brother Kevin. Michele’s family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers in Unit 47 at the Foothills Hospital, and at the Agapé Hospice. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Michele’s life at a prayer service on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church (new location, 800-85th Street S.W., Calgary). A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to charity of choice. In living memory of Michele Muench, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes.
