Obituary of NEWMARCH – Beverly H.
July 22, 1922 – April 10, 2011
Beverly Newmarch passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the age of 88 years.
Bev was born in Edam, SK and lived there until she moved to Calgary to attend the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a proud graduate of the class of 1944. She worked as a nurse in Taber, where she met her beloved Charles “Chuck” Newmarch a young geologist. Together she and Chuck lived in Fernie, B.C., Regina, SK and Calgary, where they settled and raised their family. Bev was actively involved in her community as a Brownie leader and as a volunteer with the Calgary Stampede, where she fostered many enduring friendships. Once her children were “launched”, she returned to her education and graduated in 1977 from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Social Work degree. Once retired, she and Chuck travelled extensively and volunteered in Ireland, Colombia and India.
Bev will be lovingly remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Cathie Newmarch of Calgary, and Dr. Bruce and Helen Newmarch of Kamloops, her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Marion Darling and Matt Greenlaw of Portland; grandchildren, Paul (Asheley), Brian (Kristina), Michael (Emilie), Graham, Kathleen, William and Stephanie Newmarch, and Curtis (Krystal) and Reid Darling; great grandchildren, Joel, Kieran, Shyla and Finn Newmarch and her sister Leonis Ayles. She was predeceased by her husband Chuck in 2008, and by her sisters, Jean Mair and Ruth Biley.
A Celebration of Bev’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the “Charles and Beverly Newmarch Endowment Scholarship Fund in Geology” at Mount Royal University (4825 Mount Royal Gate S.W., Calgary, AB T3E 6K6).
