Obituary of PARKEN – Barbara Faye

November 26, 1956 – March 18, 2011 Barb passed away peacefully at home in the loving embrace of her husband Darold and her children Alexander, Katherine, and Conrad. She was 54 years old. Born in Pangman, Saskatchewan, Barb grew up on her parent’s farm. She moved to Calgary in 1978 where she met Darold, the love of her life, while working at Burnet Duckworth & Palmer. After 5 years together they eloped to Las Vegas and were married at the Hitching Post. In what seemed like no time at all they were proud parents of Alexander, Katherine, and Conrad. Family was paramount to Barb. She is survived by her parents Calvin and Viola Roberts, brother Dennis (Shelly) Roberts and sister Lynne Roberts, niece Megen (Nathan) Thurber, her brother-in-law Richard, Malcolm (Diane), nieces Mackenzie and Bharbara, sister-in-law Bev Longstaff (Joe Struck), and sister-in-law Laura Parken. Barb’s faithful companions, her dogs Stella and Stanley were also a part of her family. Barb was a beautiful, elegant, and resolute woman who lived unperturbed by the trivial issues of life. Her infectious smile was enough to inspire warmth and reassurance within the hearts of the many who loved her. Barb loved life, laughed loud and often, and collected friends wherever she went. Her social grace was one of her defining features, and because of this her passing leaves us with heavy hearts. We will miss her terribly. A Celebration of Barb’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers and if friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. In living memory of Barbara Parken, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403)243-8200
