Obituary of KAWIECKI – Walter Andrew
October 16, 1939 – March 10, 2011
“God saw you getting tired
when a cure was not to be
so He closed His arms around you
and whispered, “Come to Me.”
You didn’t deserve what you
went through, and so He gave
you rest, God’s Garden must be
beautiful, He only takes the best.
And when I saw you sleeping
so peaceful and free of pain
I could not wish you back
to suffer that again.”

It is with tremendous heartbreak and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Walter Kawiecki on March 10, 2011 at the age of 71.
God took Walter from his family and friends in a merciful event after a long and courageous struggle with Rheumatoid Arthritis. So proud and honoured to be a part of his life are his soulmate and beloved wife of forty-four years, Stephanie Kawiecki; his loving children, Jason Kawiecki and Julia Graham; his wonderful daughter-in-law Michelle Fox, along with all of his extended family, including brother Joseph Kawiecki and sister-in-law Carrie Kawiecki. Walter will be remembered by all those who new and loved him for exemplifying the greatest qualities of humanity – love, kindness, compassion and generosity – and for all the years of community service he undertook with the Civitan Club in Mississauga, ON and The Arthritis Society here in Calgary. Walter’s kind and gentle soul led him to dedicating his time and energy not only to his family and friends, but also to aiding those disadvantaged by Arthritis and mental disabilities through his compassionate volunteer work. This act of kindness led Walter to receiving an Honour Key to the City of Mississauga and countless other volunteer awards in recognition of his incredible altruism and selfless contribution to others in need. The family would like to kindly and respectfully thank all of the doctors, nurses and other staff that compassionately cared for Walter at Garrison Green as well as all the wonderful friends who made his time there a true joy and who brought a twinkle to his eyes.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Walter’s life will be held at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church (402 Meredith Road N.E.) on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
