Dear Peter and Family,

Lyle and I received news of Peggy’s departure from this world and I am sorry not to be giving you our condolences in person. I am so sorry for your loss of such a remarkable presence in your lives. We will all miss her and will continue to think of Peggy and her enthusiasm for life – hiking, cycling and on the golf course.

It is with sadness and regret that I noted Peggy Valentine’s obituary in the Calgary Herald yesterday. Regret, because I should have made the effort over the last 45 years to contact her in some way and tell her how very much I appreciated her when she taught a science course at Western Canada way back in 1965. I know her primary teaching expertise was in Physical Education, but I note she also taught a couple other classes in various subjects.

She was that rare teacher you remember that made learning fun, that inspired you to learn, and made you want to succeed in her class so that you wouldn’t disappoint her. Mrs. Valentine will be remembered and honored for her many achievements in both her public and private life, but I will always remember her as a very special teacher.
