Obituary of VALENTINE – Margaret A

June 17,1940 – March 7 ,2011 Peacefully, at Southwood Hospice in Calgary, surrounded by her family after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Peggy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Peter, son Patrick, daughters Dr. Pamela Valentine (Brent Beatty), Megan Valentine (Andrew Bradford), Dr. Becky Valentine (Dr. Roberto Poma – deceased) and grandchildren, Josh, Elizabeth and Maxwell Beatty, Sam, Charlie and Merry Bradford and Valentina and Leonardo Poma. She is also survived by her brother, Arthur Barnsley (Trish) as well as friends and relatives too numerous to mention. Peggy was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, daughter of Jean and Art Barnsley, received her early education at Western Canada High School, and subsequently at the University of Alberta. Peggy was an educator, a leader and a community activist. Her numerous endeavours and accomplishments are remembered by many – those most well known include her incredible contribution to the Calgary community through her roles with the Calgary Board of Education, the Calgary Olympic Development Association, the University of Calgary, the United Way of Calgary and District, The Calgary Stampede Foundation, Alberta Blue Cross and Right to Play. Beyond her dedication to the community, Peggy had a passionate zest for life and loved cycling, skiing, golf and time in her amazing garden. She will be dearly missed. Memorial Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8 Street S.W.) on Friday, March 11 , 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with the very Reverend Robert T Pynn officiating.
