Obituary of REID – Gordon Alexander

December 28, 1936 – February 26, 2011 Gordon Reid passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 of renal failure and diabetic complications at the age of 74 years. Beloved father of Judith McRae (Gordon) of Calgary and Andrew Reid (Erin Blake) of Washington D.C. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Malmberg of Lethbridge (Clare) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Barbara Routledge. Gord was active in the Calgary advertising agency community for most of his working life in print production management as an employee and owner. Concurrent with his day job was a successful career as a cartoonist. He wrote and drew “Chinook Country” for the Calgary Herald for a number of years, the Opinion Page cartoon and articles for Oilweek Magazine for five years; The Kootenay-fied cartoon panel for the Nelson Daily News for a brief time as well as ads and brochures. Gord was a participant in the Continuing Education Summer School Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City for four years, first as a cartoonist and latterly as a painter. His large acrylic canvasses drew favorable national attention during the nineties and early years of the new century. For twenty years Gord owned a home in Procter, British Columbia, where he was an integral part of the community, and an active and innovative participant in community affairs. A memorial service will be held in the Procter Community Hall at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 5, 2011. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
