Obituary of BARRETTO – Rose Philipa

May 26, 1925 – February 17, 2011 Rose Philipa Barretto was received into the fullness of God’s Kingdom on Thursday, February 17, 2011 in Calgary, Alberta. Rose, an only child, was born on May 26, 1925 to the late Francis and Maria Angelica Fernandes in Velsao, Salcete, Goa. Rose was baptised at Our Lady of Assumption in Velsao. She married John Canicio Barretto on June 28, 1947, who preceded her in death on December 15, 1992. Following their marriage, Rose and John moved to Ngerengere, Tanzania, East Africa where they raised their children Teresa, Johnny (deceased June 26, 1999), Tony, Herman and Lica. Rose and John moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1980 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Rose is survived by daughter Teresa, her husband Gerard, and their children Erik and Marc who live in Germany; grandchildren TrudyAnn, her husband Mark, and their children Julia and Daniel, Jeremy, Vanessa, and their mother Anna, of Calgary; Tony, his wife Pearl, and their children Catherinerose and Johnpaul, of Tanzania; Herman, his wife Karen, and their children Kate, Sam and Tessa Rose, who live in Fresno, CA; and Lica, her husband Darrell, and their children Rica and Lana Rose, who live in Fresno, CA. Rose was also blessed to have many close and dear friends in Tanzania, Canada, California, Germany, Goa, and other parts of the world. Many in Calgary and Tanzania came to know her as “Mom”, Mama Rose, Granny Rose and Aunty Rose. Her friends and family were Rose’s most treasured gift and she never ceased to pray for each one, and to be concerned for their well-being. Rose’s Catholic faith and love for the Heavenly Kingdom was part and parcel of her very fabric. Her parish church of St. Patrick’s in Midnapore became her “second home”. The Father Lacombe Nursing Home and the Sisters of Providence held a special place in her heart. During the last days of her life, Rose was lovingly cared for by the staff of Chinook Hospice and Cedar Woods Extendicare Home. Rose never failed to thank each one who showed her kindness and respect. Her greatest legacy remains her love with which she cared for her children, grandchildren, friends, neighbours, and strangers whom she considered to be part of God’s blessings to her. Rose will be greatly missed by each who knew her as Mom, Grandma, Aunty, Granny, Mama, Sister, and Friend. May her soul, and all of the souls of the faithful departed to the Mercy of God, Rest in Peace. Amen.
