Obituary of Generoso LOMBARDO

June 2, 1923 – January 20, 2011 Generoso “Guy” Lombardo, beloved husband of Maria Mafalda Lombardo of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the age of 87 years. Born in Monteforte Irpino, Avellino Italy, Guy entered the workforce as a Horticulturist, and fought with the Italian Armed Forces in WW II. He married Maria on June 13, 1955. They immigrated to Canada in February 1957 where they raised two children, Nancy and Aurelio. Guy enjoyed twenty-five years as a Foreman for the City of Calgary Parks Department before retiring. The family attended Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church where Guy assisted with the Sunday collection. He also contributed to charitable work with Alberta Children’s Hospital, Saint Anthony of Padua and the Canadian Cancer Society. Guy was extremely proud of his grand children, and loved returning to Italy to spend time with family and friends. Favourite pastimes and interests have included wine-making with Maria, watching Italian programs on the RAI Network, enjoying the musical talents of Luciano Pavarotti, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Perry Como as well as having a love of dogs. Besides his loving wife Maria, Guy is survived by his daughter Nancy (Lucio) Picone and son Aurelio (Susy) Lombardo; three grandchildren, Ellena Picone, Steven and Erica Lombardo. He is also survived by one brother Guiseppe (Anna) Lombardo; two sisters Maria (Carlo) Romano, and Emilia (Alfonso) Vona; sisters-in-law Maria Fusco Lombardo, Yolanda Lombardo, Guiseppina Lombardo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends both in Calgary and in Italy. Guy was predeceased by his parents Aurelio and Annunziata Lombardo; brothers Francesco, Vincenzo and Carmine Lombardo Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through .
