Condolences
I am sorry to hear of Don’s passing. My husband, Mel, (passed away in 2006) trained under Don. He talked fondly of Don over the years as Mel truly respected him.
Sincerely: Niki Wenstob and family
I was sorry to hear of Don’s passing. I served with Don from 1961 through 1966 and have always been grateful for the example they set as a police officer to a young, newly married rookie from out of town. My wife and I offer our prayers and good memories to his family. I am not able to get to Calgary for the service but do want the family to know we are thinking of him.

Don was one of my first Sergeants when I joined the then Police Force in 1971, beneath that sometimes gruff exterior was a heart of gold and he would do anything to assist a “rookie”.
My condolences to the family and although I would have attended the service I am currently in Arizona and cannot be there.
Rest in peace Don
My Condolences. I had the priviledge of serving with Don in the Calgary Police Service from 1954 to 1969 and have fond memories of that time. He lived a full life of service to his country and his family.

I was sorry to read of Don’s passing. I have pleasant memories of visiting your home as a child with my parents, Henry and Pauline. Your mother and father were both so kind; my parents thought very highly of them both. I’m not sure if you were aware of my dad’s passing in March of last year. I like to think that there is a very happy reunion happening now in heaven; 1st as your parents reunite and then as your dad gets to see all his friends and family who departed before him. My thoughts and prayers will be with you all during this sad time. God Bless you all!

My wife Lina and I were saddened to learn of Don’s passing. I served with him in the Calgary Police from 1968 until he retired and have tried to keep in touch through the Police veterans Assn. With another ex cop Ian MacDold, we had a great time with him for an hour or so on his 90th B Day, and I saw him again last year and was planning another visit next month. Don was one of the Good Guys, a straight shooter & just a good cop. I am sorry I will miss his funeral, but I have a funeral in High River to attend and can’t get out of it. I will always remember Don with great fondness and I offer my sincere condolences to all the family. Ron Tarrant, retired Superintendent.
We are so very sorry for your loss. Don was a great friend for so many years and he will be missed! I (Doris) have so many happy memories of Don (and Fran) especially of the trip we took overseas. Remembering the good times can be such a source of strength during these difficult days and we trust you have many of them to comfort you.
To Pat, Ralph, Carmen and their families
Wendy and I send our sincere condolences on the passing of Uncle Don. We also pass on Andy and Ada’s thoughts to you all. We were reminiscing about Uncle Don in the past few days and remembering the great times we all spent together in Nobleford, Waterton, Banff and of course, Calgary. Dad loves to tell the stories of Don coming down to hunt ducks with the German war prisoner holding the shotgun while they chased the geese through the fields. Don was always able to let his guard down once he got out of the city, and Nobleford and Waterton were his playgrounds (in the good old days!!) Andy and Ada have very wonderful memories of Don and Francis and it is these cherished recollections that they hold dear. For my part, I like to tell of Uncle Don walking Grandpa Smith and I through the gates at the Stampede with a remark over his shoulder at the ticket taker – “they’re with me”. I was 10 years old, and have never felt more important in my life. Later that day when I got lost and showed up at the police compound on the grounds (as I was instructed to do), I reported that my Uncle Don told me to come here! He showed up later to claim me!! We are diminished by his passing. Due to weather and Andy and Ada’s health, we are unable to attend the service for Don but keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely, Jack
