Obituary of KWASNY – Donald

February 16, 1919 – January 11, 2011 Donald Kwasny passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a long, full life dedicated to the service of his country, his city and most especially, his loving family. Born in Brule, near Hinton, he moved at a young age to nearby Robb, and in 1932 to the family farm near Smokey Lake, AB. As the eldest son in a family of eight children, Donald worked extremely hard to help support the family during the depression. In 1940, he joined the 83rd Company Service Corps attached to the First Armoured Brigade of the Canadian Army. He served in England, Sicily, and Italy, returning home aboard a hospital ship in 1945. He remained in the Army until 1948 when he joined the Calgary Police Force, serving with enthusiasm and loyalty for thirty-one years. In retirement, Donald and his wife Frances enjoyed travelling, including seventeen trips to Hawaii, gardening, and doting on their grandchildren and shelties. Donald is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Terence) Goodwin and Carmen (Timothy) Madden; son Ralph (Lorraine); and grandchildren, Charmaine (Tracy) Grills, Nigel (Tjut Furry) Goodwin, Steven and Robert Kwasny, Michelle (Michael) Watson, and Spencer, Nolan, and Robyn Madden; and two great grandchildren. Donald was predeceased by his wife Frances in 2003 and son Frank in 1960.
