Obituary of OKAHASHI – Patricia Louise

October 8, 1959 – January 5, 2011 Patricia Louise Okahashi, age 51 of Calgary, Alberta passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at home. Patricia was born at Two Wing Air Force Base in France on October 8, 1959 to George and Irene Okahashi. Patricia’s life was filled with many devoted, lifelong friends and peers that she met through school, career and volunteer efforts. She was a dedicated advocate for the disadvantaged and the disabled which was reflected in her chosen careers with The Vocational & Rehabilitation Research Institute (VRRI) and the Calgary Scope Society. Although she was forced to retire early due to medical reasons, she continued to assist the Disability Action Hall until she was physically unable to do so. Patricia was also a passionate supporter of women’s rights and issues. Patricia possessed a keen intelligence and a wonderful sense of humour which she retained throughout her battles with scleroderma and cancer Patricia is survived by her mother Irene, step-sister Irene (Julian) Hoogstra as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her father George and step-mother Sue. A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. It was Patricia’s wish that friends and family who wish to attend the service wear bright and colourful clothing to celebrate her life.
