Obituary of BLAIN – Myrtle Irene

June 20, 1922 – January 3, 2011 Myrtle Irene Blain, born June 20, 1922 in Lomond, AB, passed away peacefully and without regrets on January 3, 2011 in Calgary, AB at the age of 88. She lived the dynamic life of a pioneering pharmacist, a world traveler, a savvy investor, a keen bargain hunter and an accomplished artist. She enjoyed a green thumb, had an eye for hidden treasures and an ear for music, especially Saturday nights with Lawrence Welk. In her own way, Myrtle inspired and challenged her family’s educational and personal pursuits by her independent spirit, strong personality and openly voiced opinions. She is survived by Lawrence’s daughters Rae (Reg) and Ann (Gary); cousins, including Claire, Florence, Melvin and Harold and their families; and her special friend Doug. Also cherishing her memory are grandchildren David & Sarah and Shelly, Susan & Kim, as well as many others with whom she met personally and professionally. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence (2004), her partner in life with whom they could both “be silly” and enjoy mutual interests. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Myrtle was a faithful supporter of various charities. Her family respectfully requests, in honour of her generosity, that donations be made to the charity of your choice. Myrtle’s family gratefully acknowledges the care and companionship provided to her by Southwood Care Centre staff in her final years. In living memory of Myrtle Blain, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB Telephone: (403) 243-8200.
