Obituary of SHAVER – Douglas Lloyd

May 27, 1925 – January 2, 2011 Douglas Shaver (Duke) passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the age of 85 surrounded by his loving family. Duke was a native Calgarian and went to Connaught and Western Canada High School. He joined the Navy and was based in Halifax, on his return he attended S.A.I.T. and began his working career at the City of Calgary Engineering Department, where he met his future wife. Duke later joined Union Tractor and then on to Sun Life as an insurance agent. He worked into his 80’s as an independent insurance broker. Duke was an ardent sports lover; golf being his favourite. He caddied at the Country Club at age 11 and later was a member of the Inglewood Golf Club for many years. Between 1949 and 1955 Duke was a trainer for the Calgary Stampeders and was a member of the Stampeders Alumni. Duke will be dearly missed by his devoted wife of sixty years, Inez, and their children Pam (Al) and son Mark, grandsons Matthew (Marta) and Brett (Bronwyn). He was predeceased by his brothers Mel, Jim and Gordon. In following Duke’s wishes, there will be no Services. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
