Obituary of McGOWAN – Lizzie Irene
November 11,1917 – December 30, 2010
Lizzie Irene (Maggie) McGowan (nee Perfect), beloved wife of the late Charles McGowan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30th, 2010 at the age of 93.
Irene was born in Wimbledon, London, England and married the love of her life on October 18th, 1941. After the Second World War (1945) and as a War Bride, Irene and her young daughter travelled to Calgary to join Charles. Calgary then became their home. After Irene’s children were all of school age, Irene joined the Bay as an employee working in the fabric department and retired after twenty-five years. Besides working full time and raising a family, Irene enjoyed and was extremely talented at sewing and numerous other crafts. Irene was a beautiful lady both from the inside and out and always extending her hand to help those in need. Irene will always be remembered for her warm smile and generosity.
Irene is survived by her three children, Mary-Jane, Terry (Linda) and Teresa (Terry), all of Calgary; six grandchildren, Kari (Tim), Marnie (Andrew), Ashley, Craig (Laura), Grant (Nicole), and Colin (Ryann); and seven great grandchildren, Reece, Ryley, Kale, Isabelle, Charlea, Tyler and Calleigh.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
