I knew Roddy through Rugby in Burlington. A gentleman First and foremost. A sad loss and he’ll be greatly missed.

No words could ever express the deep respect and admiration that I had for Roddy. A true warrior and gentleman, who led by example both on and off the field. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Mark and I would like to express our deepest sympathy for your loss. Roddy was a great guy and by far one of the nicest people we have met since coming to Canada. I always thought it was one of the coolest and most awesome things to see Roddy and Rylen playing side by side in the rugby dome. He was an excellent coach, always patient and understanding. Roddy’s old school friends and others in Edinburgh have only just heard that we have lost Roddy, though we have been striving to reconnect with him for several years now. He made the cover of the Evening News.

Roddy was a key part of our teenage group when we were growing up and I became a closer friend still when we both chose Glasgow for our further studies; he at the famous Art School as a Ceramicist and myself studying History at the ancient University. Wild times we had in and around his fabulous pad in Park Circus and strange days in the Art School Bar, but those are just a fraction my personal memories. I cannot recall his face other than graced with a laugh or a smile.

I hope there will be a service for Roddy in Edinburgh so his oldest friends can say goodbye in a fitting manner too.

Our deepest and most heartfelft condolences to his immediate family and those several others who lost those dear to them.

Roddy and I were at school together in Edinburgh from the early 80’s, he was a great friend and partner in crime during those teenage years while we grew up and took our first steps to being adults.

In the early 90’s our paths split as he headed off to Canada and I took a few steps that has eventually brought me to Hong Kong, a city he was more than familiar with.

To his wife and kids, his mother, father and sister, I pass on my deepest sympathies and condolences. I would very much like to get in touch again with you and share some stories about Roddy that will reinforce what you know already, he was unique and loving, artistic and bright.

The years may have passed but he is always in my heart and in my memories.

I was saddened to hear the news of Roddy’s passing he was a great man, friend, father and player.

I only knew Roddy briefly through playing and coaching but know his commitment to rugby and his family is second to none. He has impacted many lives for the better and I wish my condolences to his family.

We are saddened by the news of the loss of Roddy. We first met him a few years ago and the world will not be the same without him.

Jacquie and I were there when Jaimie and Roddy first met. He was always quick to laugh and a joy to be around. I had the good fortune to know Roddy both as a team-mate and with our mutual efforts with the junior program with the Burlington Centaurs RFC. Roddy and Rylen were a huge part of our success with the junior program at our club. Roddy symbolized rugby… as an opponent a fearsome competitor as a team-mate quietly leading by example. Off the field a gentleman with an easy smile that came with the confidence displayed on the field. I recently read a comment by Heather Moyse who was a gold medal winner at the Vancouver winter games and also on the National Senior Womans Rugby Team that resonates “there is a connection between rugby players that does not exist in other sports”

I’m really not sure what to say. Although I haven’t seen Roddy for a couple years, I clearly remember his great smile, and his positive attitude on and off the pitch. He will be missed.

Cathy, my family and I have the Allan and Waugh families in our thoughts. I’ve lost a fellow coach, a fellow rugby player, someone I felt I was honoured to know. They’ve lost a dad, a best friend and much more than that.
