Obituary of STEEDMAN – Shirley Marjorie

January 29, 1931 – December 24, 2010 Shirley Steedman, born January 29, 1931 passed away suddenly on December 24, 2010 at the Rockyview Hospital. Shirley follows her husband, Bud Steedman, of Spences and Roberts Shoes. Shirley, an active Calgary volunteer, was made a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of South Calgary for her outstanding yearly work on their Stampede Dream Home project. As a former patient of the Calgary Cardiac Wellness Institute, Shirley gave back to her community and became a valued volunteer there for many years. She also organized the sale of daffodils for the Cancer Society at the Scotia Centre for which she received a Certificate of Merit. Her other work included the organization of the Wonderland of Light for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Shirley’s pet project was the Calgary Ballet Company. She generously supported many charitable organizations financially, and could always be found knitting or cooking for those in need. Her claim to fame was as a baker of Nanaimo bars and she never arrived anywhere without a sample of these treats. Her family held an early 80th surprise birthday party for her in December of this year that was a wonderful gathering for her energetic personality. Her late son Jim and husband Bud will welcome her home. She will be missed by many. She will be sorely missed by her three children daughter Jo-Ann and partner Mike; daughter Karen and husband Stephen; son Don and partner Helen; seven grandchildren, Peer and Fynn; Kelsey, Zak and Alex; Jordan and Adan; five great-grandchildren, Quinn, Cate, Bethany, McKenzie and Isabella; her sister Joyce Campbell and Husband Bob of Kelowna and their family. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. You may forward condolences through .
