Obituary of PITT – C. Red

May 15, 1925 – November 28, 2010 It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of our Dad and Grandfather, Red, on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Red was born in Blairmore, AB to Dora and Arthur Pitt, the third oldest in his family of eight children. He is survived by three daughters, Dianne (Leigh), Cathy, Shirley (Doug); three grandsons, Jeff (Anna), Clint (Thea) and Kel (Laurel); and two granddaughters, Deanne and Kari (Jeff). He also had three great-grandchildren, Amanda, Tony and Melissa. His wife Dorothy and son Jim predeceased him. At the age of 17, “Torchy” lied about his age to join the navy in 1942. He saw a great deal while serving on an aircraft carrier and made a few very special lifelong friends. Upon his discharge in 1945 he married “Dot” and started his career as an electrician with Wilkinson Electric. He went on to own the company in 1971 and he ran it until he “wound it down” in 1992 and retired. In 1974, his dream to own a country home became a reality when he built the “Ranch” south of Water Valley. Friends and family have many wonderful memories of the good times there! The Ranch was Red’s favourite place to be. Red was driven by his desire to provide a better life for his family than the one he had growing up. He was very ambitious and very successful. He strove to pass his work ethic on to his children and grandchildren. As a young man, Red loved to fish in the Elk Valley and later his love turned to golf. Up until a few years ago, Red still went out hunting for the perfect Christmas tree to fill the large living room at the Ranch. One of his soft spots was always children, so we ask that donations be made in his memory directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail N.W., Calgary, AB T3B 6A8, Telephone: (403) 955-8818. A Celebration of Red’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Chaplehow Branch #284 (606 – 38 Avenue N.E.) on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Red Pitt, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Cochrane Funeral Home, 369 RAILWAY STREET, COCHRANE. Telephone: (403) 932-4740.
