Obituary of CRAWFORD – Anne Stewart

Anne Crawford died peacefully at home with her son and daughter by her side on November 13, 2010. Born in Edmonton, AB on February 4, 1942, Anne moved to Calgary as a youngster when her father, George Crawford, returned from overseas service with the Navy. George and Anne’s mother Sheila were active community members during Calgary’s heyday of the fifties and sixties and Anne grew up surrounded by a wonderful circle of family friends whom remained a part of her life throughout. In order to pursue Anne’s love of horses and that of her three sisters, Anne’s family kept a country home in Pump Hill and later in Priddis. The Priddis home became Anne’s parents’ principal residence for more than forty years and the centre of many fond family memories. A piece of that Priddis land – Anne’s sanctuary – was forever the love of her life. Anne graduated from UBC (Hon. Degree, Philosophy) in 1963 and soon after traveled to Europe where she met Norwegian Anders Saether. The two married and raised two children in Sweden and Norway during which time Anne also earned a Political Science Degree from Stockholm University. Anne returned to Canada with her two children in 1985. For more than fifteen years Anne enjoyed a career at the Calgary Herald as a journalist, many of those years as a business reporter, before pursuing a second career as an independent media relations advisor with a particular passion for the preservation of the beautiful grasslands in Southern Alberta. She is survived by mother, Sheila, son Ragnar (Dana), daughter, Katharine (Leon), and sisters Sally, Eve, and Erica (Marc). Anne is also survived by grandchildren Lukas, Cynthia, Elias, Alexandra and baby-to-be. Anne was predeceased by father George. Anne’s wit, elegance and no-nonsense attitude towards life will be dearly missed by everyone whose lives she touched. There’s a warm ray of sunshine that will forever light up the Valley of Priddis. The family wishes to thank all of the nursing staff who cared for Anne, Dr. Scot Dowden and her many friends. We especially wish to thank Kitty Pryde, whose unconditional love and support through Anne’s difficult journey this past year surpassed all that we could have hoped for. In celebration of Anne’s life a memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Church, 3602-8 St. S.W., Calgary, AB. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Calgary Foundation (700, 999 8th Street S.W.
