Obituary of MANAHAN – Reta Irene

August 15, 1921 – November 12, 2010 Reta Manahan of Calgary passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the age of 89 years. Reta was born in Hanna, Alberta on August 15, 1921 to George and Minnie Louise Russell. A true daughter of the province though she traveled the world and saw every climate and condition, she never thought to live anywhere but Alberta and praised this place to the end of her days. The beauty of her character – unobtrusive, steadfast, and enduring – was apparent to all who turned attentive eyes to her. She reflected with credit her place and time. In the war years, Reta moved from Hanna to Calgary to attend Mount Royal College. After graduating, she worked first at a law office and thereafter in the oil business, most notably with Petrofina Canada. In her work and in her personal life Reta was provident and dutiful. A skilled gardener herself, she esteemed work well done. Reta died on November 12, 2010, surrounded by love, a short while after suffering a devastating stroke. Among the many feeling bitter-sweet grief, those most particularly affected are her sisters: Helen Jacobsen (Vancouver), Lillian Stefan (Florida) and Kae Baugh (Calgary); as well as her nieces and nephews: Marian (Ken) Whitbread, Pam Baugus, Jack (Linda), Graham (Melody) and David Baugh, Lori (Bob) Baugh-Littlejohns, and Leanne Baugh. She is also survived by numerous dearly beloved third and fourth generation nieces and nephews. Reta was a life-long Anglican and particularly a member of the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer in Calgary. All of those friends and family who love her wish the Lord to take her up most tenderly into fellowship with Himself. He kept her to the end. Funeral Services will be held at Cathedral Church of the Redeemer (218 – 7th Avenue S.E.) on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Reta Manahan, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.
