Obituary of WALKER – Leona Florence

October 23, 1922 – November 3, 2010 Leona Florence Walker passed away peacefully on November 3, 2010 at Agape Hospice at the age of 88 years. Leona was born in Oshawa, ON and as a young girl moved west with her family. She grew up in Lashburn, SK and in 1940 attended normal school in Saskatoon, later teaching in a one room rural school (Battle River School). In April 1943 Leona married Herb Walker who left for overseas soon after. After the war they farmed at Vegreville, AB for twenty-six years. Leona and Herb moved to Calgary in 1971 where she worked for Woodward’s and Eaton’s. In their retirement, Leona and Herb enjoyed many years of senior club activities, travelled, gardened and lawn bowled. Leona is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Herb, her son Laurie (Audrey), daughter Sharon (Frank), daughter-in-law Cheryl, seven grandchildren and eight great-grand children and was predeceased by her youngest son Don. Family and friends are invited to attend an informal gathering to celebrate Leona’s life at Scenic Acres Retirement Residence (150 Scotia Landing N.W.) on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
