To the family of the late Jozef Bereta:
Kazimiera Matys-Smalec and family send their condolences and sympathy.
Your parents, and you their children (Helen, Ted, and Donna) were the first Calgarians, Albertans, and Canadians that my late husband (Frank Smalec) and I met in Calgary.
I spent my first Christmas in Calgary with your family. I am sorry that I couldn’t attend the funeral of your father as I was in the Foothills Hospital for the past 12 days.
May God bless you and keep you all in his care.
Kazimiera Matys-Smalec and family.
Your dad’s timeline dates on this earth were measured as June 23, 1920 – Nov. 3, 2010…but I think his most beloved and important dates are contained within the “dash” that separates his birth from his death. Mr. B packed a lot of life into his “dash”. He saw some wonderous sights and sites in this world, and he touched everyone along his path with his kindness and his courage. I will forever miss my Mr. B’s sense of humor and his amazing abilities with plumbing and electrical mysteries that left me throughly perplexed. Memories of past Christmas dinners will be especially in my heart–the elegantly-attired host, presiding over the fabulous dinner table and making sure my plate and glass were never empty. And then there were the presents–I was so touched that he always made sure there was a gift for me under the tree. Your dad was a gentleman and a gentle man, in the truest sense of both those terms. He lived an incredible “dash”.
God bless your dad for the time he spent here with us, and may He continue to keep your family close to His heart.
My condolences to the Bereta family. Your obituary is of special recognition to him in that I experienced some of his story telling and charm when he came to visit me at the office. He was always eager to chat and indeed a gentleman. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
We are very greatful to have know Mr
