Obituary of WRIGHT – Lois Jean

March 17, 1916 – November 3, 2010 We are sad to announce that after a long, happy, action-packed life, Lois peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the age of 94. Lois was raised in Calgary and to her it was the only place on earth to live. The weather was always good, and the ever-changing skies were the most glorious in the world. Her favourite chair afforded her an unobstructed view of the Elbow River and the mountains beyond, and she took great pleasure in greeting that vista each day with ‘Hello World!’, and watching the clouds move and change in the sky. Lois grew up in, and with, Calgary – swimming in the Elbow, using Freddie Lowe’s cabin as a change room and tobogganing down what is now Bow Trail, but was then just a ravine. She attended Sunalta School and Central Canada High School. She met her future husband, George, while ice skating as a teenager on the river. She tripped him by accident on the ice, but he forgave her and gave her a life of happiness and adventure. She traveled with him to the oil rigs where he worked in his early days as a geologist, and raised her two oldest children in the then oil boom-town of Devon. Lois and George eventually settled in Scarboro where the rest of the family was born and raised. A rugged family cabin in what was then the impoverished coal town of Canmore was where the family spent summers and weekends in the winter, swimming, skiing and playing games. A highlight of their lives was a one year sabbatical in the ‘60’s to Bermuda, where Mom and Dad learned to ride mopeds at the advanced age of 50, and packed a lunch each day to ride off and explore the island and its pink beaches while John and Susan attended school. Lois’s family came first in all she did, and she liked nothing more than to be in their midst, telling stories, sharing memories, and enjoying a meal and a glass of wine. To the very end, and every day, Mom was ready and willing to go out for dinner or to a party somewhere, anywhere. Her family loves her very much and will miss her forever, but we are so happy that she has finally found peace. We hope she is finally at that party she was so looking forward to. Lois is survived by her sister Iris Hare, daughter Robin Mitchelson (Barry), son George (Darlene), daughter Susan (Dale Campbell) and son John (Sol), numerous grandchildren and two great grandchildren, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Norma and Jimmie Carrow, and nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by her husband George and infant daughter Karen.
