Obituary of TRENT – Ernest Ernie John

March 30, 1929 – October 14, 2010 Ernest “Ernie” J. Trent beloved husband of Shirley of Calgary, moved on in his 81st year on Thursday, October 14, 2010. Ernie was born in Strangmuir, AB on March 30, 1929 to Helen and Gilbert Trent in the midst of a snow storm. Ernie attended elementary school in Cairn Hill and later High school in Carseland. Ernie moved to Calgary in 1948 to apprentice as a draftsman with Dominion Bridge; where he worked his way up. He remained there working with his best friend John Reid for thirty-five years. One of his many accomplishments includes, the flame at the top of the Calgary Tower. Ernie retired in 1989, his hobbies of gardening, traveling, enjoying time away at “TIKI”, and renovating whatever he could get his hands on became a fulltime passion. Besides his loving wife Shirley, Ernie is survived by his son Derek (Rowena); daughters, Liza Trent-Parlee (Ken) and Allison Trent (Calum); four grandchildren, Devin, Tanner, Mikela and Caitlin; one great-grandson Owen; beloved cat Shylo; brothers, Alfred, George and Art; and sisters, Florence Alden and Frances Nicholls. Ernie was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Scott, Alice Budner, Irene Hansen and Lil Wieshlow; one brother Wilfred Trent; beloved pets, Sandy, Midnight, Blackie, Ralph, Ki and Chaplin. A Celebration of Ernie’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
