I would like to pass along my condolence’s to Harold’s family. Harold was my Grade 8 teacher at RJ Davidson School in Regina, way back in 1966-67. I remember Harold as quite a stern teacher when he needed to be. We had a somewhat unruly class at times. On one occasion things got a bit out of control when Harold left the room to attend to some business as Principal. When he returned he caught us ‘in the act’, shooting erasers at each other with our BIC pens, which we used as pea shooters. Well, a few of us ring-leaders (myself included) got the strap for that – which was sort of a well-deserved lesson in life I guess. Anyway, no harm done, as I went on to complete high school and university, and later took up the practice of law here in Regina. I attribute my own success to teachers like Harold, who hung in there, despite our antics. As I recall, Harold had a theory that those who did poorly in his class likely were not paying attention, so he moved them to the front of the class. My own marks improved greatly in grade 8, with the result that by the end of the year I was sitting at the back of the class room (and causing more mischief too!). All the best to Harold’s family at this difficult time. He was, indeed, a great teacher.
