Obituary of YOUNG – Harold Carl

October 4, 1923 – August 17, 2010 Carl Young, dearly loved by us, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010, and our hearts are lightened with the knowledge that he is now at peace. Carl lived an interesting, challenging, rewarding and full life. He grew up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, which he spoke about fondly, telling stories about skating and rowing and swimming in the lake by his house. He entered the Canadian Armed Forces in the Second World War and served both in Canada and overseas. After graduating from the faculty of Law at Dalhousie University, Carl moved his family west to Alberta to begin the next phase of his life at Chevron. Dad held many positions in his 30 years with Chevron, finishing his remarkable career as a Vice President. One of his most significant accomplishments was his crucial role in The Hibernia offshore oil field. In his last years, still growing and learning, he volunteered and made a contribution teaching English as a Second Language to new Canadians. He loved to travel and explore. He loved the sun, the desert, and places around the world. He loved to venture with his family, children, and grand children. He was forever reading and learning. He loved his children, his family, his grandchildren, and enjoyed watching the family grow. It was at the end of his life that he showed his true strength and courage in his battle with cancer. Carl is survived by his children Steve, Marilyn and Pamela, grandchildren Erin, Michael, Cindy, Tracy, Lesley, Sam and Ben, great-grandson Andrew, and also by his dear partner, Betty, who shared his love. Dad would want to thank the remarkable staff at Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Sarcee Hospice for the care, devotion, and love they showed him every day.
