Obituary of ALLISON – Edward Francis
D.D.S., F.I.C.D, F.A.D.I., F.P.F.A.
May 12, 1929 – July 3, 2010
Ted Allison, beloved husband of Flora for fifty-four years, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the age of 81 years. Ted, a lifelong Calgarian, will be missed and fondly remembered by all those he knew and touched during his remarkable life.
Ted grew up in Calgary and attended Earl Grey, Rideau Park and Central schools before moving on to Mount Royal College and finally the University of Alberta, where he was awarded a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1953. Upon graduation he set up practice in Calgary where he enjoyed a successful professional career spanning nearly half a century.
Ted’s contributions to his community were in no way limited solely to his profession. A lifelong volunteer and man of service, he gave countless hours to Rotary, Kinsmen, the Red Cross, St. Philip Anglican Church, the Calgary Stampede, 1988 Winter Olympic Games, Alberta Motor Association and the Salvation Army, to name but a few. No task was too menial, no challenge too daunting. He believed in strong communities, strong character and strong friendships. This served him well his entire life.
Throughout his life, he was a social man of sport and adventure who enjoyed nothing more than a sunrise swim at Wasa Lake, a trek through the mountains, a day in the field with his dogs, cutting first tracks at Kimberly, golfing with his friends and family, or a good game on the hard wood, grid iron or diamond. Ted and Flora were also fortunate to have travelled the world together, often joined by friends and family.
He was a long term member of the Glencoe Club and the Calgary Golf & Country Club where he forged many friendships, and enjoyed countless stories, laughs and memories.
Ted struggled recently with some serious health setbacks and dealt with them as one would expect from him: quietly, without complaint, with strength, courage and dignity.
Ted is survived by his best friend and wife of fifty-four years, Flora; sons, Glenn (Cathy), Rob (Alison) and Ian (Joan); and his six grandchildren, Russ, Grady, Heather, Mac, Graham, and Avery. He is also survived by his brothers Ken and Ross.
