Obituary of TOWNSEND – Arthur Martell

November 10, 1916 – May 8, 2010 Arthur Martell Townsend, beloved husband of Patricia of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the age of 93 years. Born in Louisbourg NS, Arthur graduated from the Sydney Academy High School, then received a Bachelor of Education Degree from Acadia University in Wolfville, NS. He went on to teach school in Cape Breton, NS. Arthur served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII, and following the war taught math to servicemen. Returning to Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, he studied law and received his law degree in 1949. Later that year Arthur moved to Calgary where he went on to practice law until his retirement in 1988. He was an avid antique, art and book collector, talented piano player with a great love for music, gardening and bridge. Throughout his life, many people benefited from Arthur’s wisdom, guidance, common sense and strong character. Beside his loving wife, Arthur is survived by daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Marc Jones; three sons and daughters-in-law, John and MaryLee MacDonald, Tom and Edna, Mark and Margaret; ten grandchildren, Paul, Adam, Anna, Rebekah, Jamie, Steven, Darren, Brent, Sara, Tyler; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ava and Adrian. Arthur was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Olive and William Townsend; as well as three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Lila, Lloyd and Chris and Ralph and Marion. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
