Obituary of POSCENTE – Maria

August 15, 1918 – April 14, 2010 Maria Poscente, of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the age of 91 years. Maria’s kind and caring nature made her a friend to all who crossed her path. The aroma of home cooking and her warm and enthusiastic smile always greeted those who entered her home. Her Italian cuisine will be missed forevermore. Family and friends gathering together was so very important to her. Maria was a hardworking, gentle person. She immigrated to Canada from Italy in 1954. She always put others ahead of herself to ensure that they were well looked after. Besides her loving family, Easter and Christmas traditions were of utmost importance to her. She encouraged her entire family and friends to try to be together with her for these joyous occasions. Maria was employed by the Holy Cross Hospital for over twenty-seven years where she established many life long friendships. Maria was predeceased by her husbands, Benedetto Poscente and Umberto Poscente; and her brothers, Geremia Tognarini and Serafino Tognarini. Maria is survived by her brother Gino (Lidia) Tognarini, sister Rosa Manni; and sister-in-law Caterina Tognarini, all of Italy. Maria (Nonna) will be greatly missed by her children and their families; daughter, Rita Carloni (Walter Orechow), grandchildren, Corina (Ray), Murina (Leonard), Surina, and Lawrence; son, Loreto (Liz) Poscente, grandchildren, Lori (Randy), Paul (Sheri) and Jason (Stephanie); daughter, Tina (Tim) Juristy, grandchildren, Michael (Dawn) and Matthew; ten great grandchildren, Toni, Justine, Josh, Naomi, Ryan, Brianne, Kian, Arden, Ethan, and Reese; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada and Italy. The family would like to acknowledge Barbara Jotic as she became a true friend and companion to Maria (Nonna), spending countless hours with her during her time of need. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
