Obituary of SEACOMBE – Marie

August 23, 1949 – April 12, 2010 Marie was a loving, caring wife and best friend to husband Robin for thirty-six years; a devoted mother to Megan (Darren) Drebert and a doting Nana to Peyton and Sienna. Marie was released from her pain peacefully on Monday, April 12, 2010 at home, after a prolonged struggle with cancer. Marie survived an earlier bout with the disease in 2000, but finally succumbed upon its return last year. Marie was a good friend to many and her gregarious charms, infectious laughter and gracious manner came to be loved and admired by many. She was, for many years, an active member of Calgary Nu-grads organizing several pastime groups including ladies golf and the Chick flicks group. With Robin, she was an active and enthusiastic member of International Gourmet, Bon Appetit, and wine tasting. Jazzercise and a bowling group were other pursuits. She was born in Preston, England and leaves a loving extended family, including her brother and sister-in-law Dave and Pam; sister and brother-in-law Anne and Richard; nephews, Tim, Christopher, Jack and Tim; nieces, Claire, Alice, Lucy, Fiona, Katie and Anna; plus Auntie Marie (Sister Anne); and many cousins and friends on three continents. Marie immigrated to Canada in 1974 in pursuit of her then fiancé Robin. Living nine years in Toronto, she made many good friends there who stayed close in spite of the family’s move to Calgary in 1983. Although living in Canada for thirty-six years, she maintained close ties with family members and friends throughout the world who share in this loss. Marie was noted as a keen traveller counting Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, Spain, Italy, France, Austria, Croatia, Mexico. St. Maarten and many other Caribbean islands, as well as frequent trips to the U.K., among her favoured destinations. She was predeceased by her mother Winifred in 1987 and her father Harry in 2003. She will be greatly missed. A gathering in celebration of Marie’s life and friendship will be held in the Reception Centre at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Home Care Nurses Palliative care team for all their efforts in extending Marie’s life and keeping her comfortable.
