Obituary of EVANS – Donald Owen Don

July 21, 1925 – April 10, 2010 Don Evans left this world for a better place on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the age of 84 years. He was born in Eckville, AB on July 21, 1925 and grew up in Clive and later Condor, AB. In 1943, he enlisted in the RCAF, but spent the latter months of the war in military hospital because of arthritis. In 1946, he studied business at Garbutts College. He married his much loved wife Joyce in 1948 and began his life’s work at the Alberta Wheat Pool head office in Calgary, from where he retired in 1984. He was a long time member and Elder of St. Giles Presbyterian Church , and among the first six life members of Thorncliffe Community Association. Don enjoyed fishing, golfing, bingo, playing cards and games with friends, of whom he had many. He was a kind, loving, gentle man, always ready with a helping hand. Don is survived by his beloved wife Joyce; sons, Larry (Kathy), Daryl (Gloria), Greg, and Rod (Cindy); daughter Janet (Mike) McGillvrey; sister Joan (Walter) Wittchen; sister-in-law Beth Evans; aunt Maxine (Harold) Grimes. Don was a wonderful grandpa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and a favourite uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by beloved daughter-in-law Carol and brother Art. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
