Obituary of CORMACK – George Douglas

September 11, 1933 – April 09, 2010 It is with sad hearts that the family of George Cormack announces his passing on Friday April 09, 2010 at the age of 76 years in Calgary, Alberta. George is survived by Bev, his loving wife of 51 years, children Julie of Calgary, Graham (Tanna) of Calgary and James (Janette) of Bedford, New Hampshire. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren; Devon, Ryan, Warren, Jenna and Victoria. Also survived by his brother Bill, sister Isobel Clarke, his sister-in-law Bernice Sackville, also by nieces and nephews in Vancouver, Calgary and Ontario. George was born in Killam, Alberta, and educated at the University of British Columbia. He was Professor Emeritus from the University of Alberta, and previously taught Engineering at Carleton University. He was a Life Member of APEGGA, and a founding member of TRLabs. As a young engineer he was responsible for designing the cockpit instruments in the Avro Arrow. Upon his retirement from the University of Alberta, he wrote a book called Dollars for Retirement, established ANNROC Retirement Financial Planning Corp. and did consultations for a number of years. He was passionately interested in genealogy and wrote an in-depth book on the Cormack Family Tree, as well as discovering new Swedish relatives in both Sweden and the United States. George and his wife traveled widely across Canada, the United States, Europe, England and Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and most recently, China to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. George was an enthusiastic golfer in Edmonton, Calgary and at their winter home in Palm Desert, California. He was also an avid painter starting at a young age and continuing into retirement. He will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank the staff of Southwood Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care. A private family service will be held.
