Obituary of EAGLETAIL – Eliza Marie

May 27, 1938 – April 1, 2010 Eliza beloved wife of Fred of Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB passed away in Calgary on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the age of 71 years. Eliza (known to her Cree family as NahNi) led a very active life with her family. She was involved in the community in various capacities. She was a very loving and caring person, who enjoyed picking indigenous plants and berries with family. She was a teacher of culture, and positive life virtues and attended Blue Quills Residential School, located near St. Paul, AB. Eliza became an NA, and worked at the Calgary General Hospital for many years. She was an avid reader and encouraged all of her children to continue their education through college and university. She also enjoyed bingo and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events as she travelled to watch her children participate in Pow Wows. Wife of keeper of the Beaver Bundle that is sacred to all Athabascan speaking people. A mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to many. She is also a sister, auntie, and a friend. She is a mother to Aaron (Bernie), Bella (Allan), Corrine (Jerry), Darlene, Glen (Stacy), Hal (Aimee), Ivan, Joanne, Kyle (Vanessa), Lenny (Tanya). She is a sister to Frank Large (Florence) and Mike Meguinis. Adopted children, Terri Crane, Brett Big Plume and Marilee Whitney, Kenny, Claire, J.R., Kurt, and Michael Large. Grandchildren, Leevon (Jeanette), Simone (Mason), Stephanie, Naomi (Kelsey), Mariah (Robbie), and 22 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and numerous others. Special sisters Bella Shenfield, Nancy Waskjawich, Florence Yahowlinski and brother Charlie Woods. She was predeceased by Jean Marie Large (Father), Louisa Large (Mother), and brother Wilfred Large, Sister in laws, Mary and Marcie Large, Amelia Meguinis, her son, Randy, grandchild Hope, great grandchild, Matthias. Paternally predeceased by Maggie Big Belly and Inisista (Yellow Lodge Woman). We apologize for anyone we missed during this sad time. Our special thanks to the nurses, Veronica and Kirsty at the Tsuu T’ina Health Centre and the Tsuu T’ina First Nation Community. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Tsuu T’ina Nation, AB on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Tsuu T’ina Cemetery.
