Obituary of CUNNINGHAM – Norma June

June 1, 1925 – March 8, 2010 Norma, Bill’s wife of sixty-one years, Jan and Lori’s mom, Gary and Jim’s mother-in-law, Beth, Kristin and Billy’s Nana, Drew and Matt’s Nana in law and Emery and Keegan’s Great Nana, was an amazing woman. Her love of family was evident in everything she did. She loved us all so very much and we are all so sad to lose her. Norma passed away on March 8th in the early morning hours while she slept. Norma was a kind, generous, women that lived her entire life in Calgary. She loved Calgary and was one of our cities best volunteers. She was active in several Home and Schools, the YWCA, the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, the Canadian Women’s Club, Calgary Oil Wives, the Calgary Activettes the Highwood Golf Course, the Calgary Seniors Resource center and others that I am sure we have forgotten. In 1996, she was nominated for the YWCAs Women of Distinction award. This was a fitting nomination for Norma as she worked many years for the YWCA and was very involved in the capital campaign to build its current location on 5th Ave. Norma, was an active member of the Creative Living Committee for the Calgary Stampede and worked hard to make Floriad an amazing display for all those that attended the Stampede. She was President of the Canadian Women’s Club and was proud to carry on that tradition set by her mom Addie Woolston. As well, for a time, she was President of Women’s golf at the Highwood Golf Course in High River where her and Bill spent many happy days golfing. Norma was so proud of her newest family members, her Great Grand children. She loved nothing better than to spend time with her family and have all of us around her. In her last days when she was not always awake, she loved it the best when we were all together with her. We were simply, her joy. Norma loved life and when she heard that Jan and Gary were heading out to the Olympics, she was finding ways to join them. That was Norma, always game for anything and always life’s greatest supporter. We will miss her so much but celebrate a life well lived each and every day. Her friends were like gold to her and she nurtured them in such a special way. All of us are richer today because we were part of Norma’s life. Thank you to her many friends that visited her over the last year. She loved your visits and felt special because of you. Thank you to the staff at the Glenmore Beverly Center for your kindness and care. Heaven has a new person to love and if we know Norma she arrived with great fanfare ready to get everything organized. We love you mom, we will miss you forever and always.
