Obituary of Ronald Eric EDLUND

November 23, 1947 – Vancouver, British Columbia August 18, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta Ronald (Ron) Eric Edlund, beloved husband of Darleen Edlund (nee McDonald), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the age of 71 years. Ron married Darleen on February 22, 1969. He accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his family, building houses and restoring his car. Ron loved dirt biking, fishing, drag racing and car shows. Ron grew up in Burnaby and graduated from Burnaby South High School. He met Darleen on a blind date set up by his friend, Mel Peterson. Ron had already planned to go to Montreal to pioneer with one of his friends, Peter Creamore for a year. That lasted nine months. During that time, he wrote many love letters to Darleen. He came home, and they were married in February of 1969. Then the real adventure started. Over the next few years, they had four sons. He loved to work with his boys and would take them to work with him. He instilled the value of hard work and could build pretty much anything, big or small, out of any kind of material. He got great pleasure and satisfaction in doing so. While camping, he taught them to fish and dirt bike. Ron was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in 1963. Over the years, he made many friends in the Lower Mainland, Montreal, Okanagan, and Calgary. Ron looked forward to the future hope where Jehovah has promised to make all things new and he shared that hope with others. Besides his loving wife, Darleen, Ron is survived by his four sons and three daughters-in-law, Shane (Rhiannon), Jason, Darren (Kim), Duane (Amber); and three grandchildren, MacKenzie, Cash, and Cora. Ron is also survived by his three brothers, Doug (Norine), Norm, and Ray; and nieces and nephews, Blair, Orin, Cerise, Kirsten, and Steven. Ron was predeceased by his father Richard Edlund, who died in a house fire when Ron was a baby; his mother Anna; Sigurd Edlund; and his sister-in-law Inge.
