Obituary of VINCENT – Jennifer Jenny

June 15, 1968 – January 24, 2010 Jennifer Vincent, born in Montreal on June 15, 1968, died at home on January 24, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. Jenny was the beloved wife and dearest friend of Jim Nield; and mother of her adored boys, Tyler (10) and Isaac (8). She will be deeply missed by her parents, Janet and Peter Vincent of Calgary; and by parents-in-law, Jack and Janet Nield; and the late Sharon Nield. She was a great friend to Jim’s siblings, Laura (Jim), Donna (Michael), Peter (Nancy), Margaret (Michael), and Esther. She was a special friend to Tanya Childs; and was a much loved aunt to the Nield clan of nieces and nephews. Jenny graduated from Bishop’s University in 1991, and the University of Victoria in 1994. At her death she was working on her PhD in Sports Technology at the University of Calgary. Prior to returning to academic life, she had a rewarding and successful career as a computer scientist in Calgary. Jenny was deeply passionate about horseback riding; and she was an athlete of distinction, having represented Canada in rugby from 1987 to 1992. After starting women’s rugby at the University of Victoria, she had a distinguished coaching career at all levels in Canada. Jenny had a profound impact on all she turned her hand to, and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at Parkdale United Church (2919 – 8th Avenue N.W.) on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. To honour her memory, scholarships have been developed in Jenny’s name. An academic scholarship in the Sports Technology Research Laboratory as well as the Jenny Vincent Coaching Endowment for Women’s Rugby, which will support future coaches of the Dinos women’s rugby program.
