I just learned of Dr. Macdonald’s passing. I am so sad about this. I was in his senior class (The Haunted Summer) the first year he taught this course at the U of C. My brother had just passed away, and Lorne was so very kind to me.

Ten years later he was instrumental in my admission to graduate school at UBC. He was one of my referees, and admitted teasingly to me that he had made me work “much too hard” in that final year of courses.

Over the years, I had so many great opportunities to chat with him in the elevator as we both went to work. I will miss him greatly as part of his literary family.
