July 17, 1925 – January 9, 2010 It is with deep regret we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Larry passed away at the Chinook Hospice surrounded by his family at the age of 84 years. He leaves behind daughters Joanne (Brian) Barnett and Karen (Darrell) Davis, son Ian (Marleen), and daughter-in-law May, as well as five grandsons, five granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. Larry will also be missed by sisters Helen (Cy) Putnam and Ethel (Bill) Stewart, extended family and many good friends. He was predeceased by his wife Martha, son Kevin, brothers Bobby and Ralph (Dolores) and sister Ruth (Walter) Snook. Larry enlisted in the Army in 1944 as soon as he finished high school. When the war ended, he was accepted into the Commerce program at the University of Alberta. He finished his Commerce degree in 1948, and then an Education degree in 1949. After teaching for three years in Cadomin at the new high school, he moved to Calgary and worked in the oil patch for thirteen years, and then returned to teaching in 1965. He retired from teaching in 1986, his twenty-one years of service spent primarily at James Fowler, Forest Lawn and Queen Elizabeth high schools. He was a sports enthusiast and supporter of many school basketball and volleyball teams. He also served for several years as a pension consultant for the Alberta Teachers Association. Larry met Martha, also a teacher, while in Cadomin. They were married in 1954 and in their fifty-three years together they made more than thirty trips to their favourite vacation destination, Hawaii. Larry took great pride in the achievements of their children and grandchildren.
