Obituary of Lois Anne Wedderburn Blair

March 19, 1928 – December 21, 2009 Lois was born in the same house as her mother and grandmother at Barryvale, in the Ottawa valley. She grew up in the area and went on to Kingston General Hospital Nursing School and practiced as a surgical nurse at Vancouver General Hospital. While attending nursing school, Lois met and was courted by Bob Blair. They were married in 1953 and raised five children during their 25 year marriage. The first years Lois travelled with Bob who worked across North America. They started a family on the move but when Bob was hired for an executive position in Calgary, they put down roots. Lois steadfastly maintained a loving home for the family through this exceptionally busy time of life. Lois completed an education degree after her children were raised, and travelled extensively. She was an accomplished decorative artist and she inspired others to find joy in painting. She volunteered many ways in her lifetime. Her latest involvement was with the Boys and Girls Club. She was a voracious reader all her adult life. Lois was informed and engaged in what was happening in the world. Oskar Slowik, a respected psychiatrist and long time Calgary resident, and Lois bonded while enjoying each other’s company, friends and life experiences. Oskar was very dear to all Lois’s family. A lifelong student of spirituality, Lois became a wonderfully enlightened elder complemented by her innate natural wisdom and distinct life experiences. Lois loved the outdoors, a big part of her childhood; she adored nature while walking, hiking, skiing or just reading. She had a close affinity with birds, owls in particular. She always loved dogs. Lois was a loving Mother and artist, always a true friend to many. Lois will be remembered as a dignified, yet earthy lady blessed with character. Lois had a keen eye, a sharp wit and lived to sing out loud. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church (1611 St. Andrew’s Place N.W.) on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
