Obituary of LEWKO – Joseph

Joe passed away suddenly on December 1, 2009 and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Joe Lewko grew up in the forest country of Northern Ontario. In 1948, Joe moved out west to the city of Calgary. There he met and married his bride, Evelyn Fay, who he leaves behind with his only son Darell Joseph, daughter-in-law Kathy Elizabeth and their sons; Evan D.J. and Noah D.J. Joe was predeceased by his parents; William Basil and Catherine Lewko of Garden Hill, Ontario and his only sister Anne Lewko-Long of Rochester, New York. Following 36 years of service with the City of Calgary Fire Department, he retired in 1987 while still continuing his professional photography and video production career. Joe remained active in fire investigation, and lecturing to professionals across Canada and the United States. He maintained membership in the International Association of Arson Investigators and served as a board member of Evidence Photography International Council. In 1994, he authored the sell-out investigation guidebook Fire On Wheels. Joe was presented the prestigious R.C. Hakanson Award in 1999. Until recently, he remained an active volunteer with Calgary’s Heritage Park Historical Village.
