Obituary of HART – James

May 30, 1931 to November 17, 2009 With heavy hearts we announce Jim’s peaceful passing with his family by his side. He fought a valiant five month battle with pancreatic cancer. Jim will be lovingly remembered by Jo Anne his dear wife of fifty-two years as well as his son Tony Hart (Jolene) of Cochrane, AB; and three daughters, Lisa Melnyk (Kevin) of Calgary, Jennifer Longdo (Blair) of Calgary and Darcie Klapp (Fred) of Kelowna, BC. He will also be dearly missed by his seven grandchildren, A.J., Cody and Dayne Hart, Matthew and Tyler Melnyk, Evan and Gracie Longdo; and many cherished friends. Jim is also survived by his three sisters, Ina Alexander (John) of Victoria, BC, Margaret Wood of Hamilton, ON and Frieda Hart of Victoria; his niece Jacqui Windsor (Bob) of Shelbyville, Kentucky; and nephew Ric Wood of Hamilton. He was predeceased by his parents James and Inés Hart; his sisters, Elsie and Ivy Hart; and brother-in-law Bernie Wood. Jim was born May 30, 1931 in Hamilton, ON. Upon graduating with Honours Geology from the University of Western Ontario in 1955 he worked in mining in Quebec for a year and then began his thirty-year career with Imperial Oil. Jim enjoyed twenty-three years of retirement pursuing his passions of music, reading, wine and travelling with Jo Anne. Besides his family, one of his greatest enjoyments was his fourteen years spent golfing at his favourite course Cottonwood G&C with the many friends made there. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be lovingly remembered for his sharp wit and sense of humour. During his brave battle with cancer Jim’s greatest desire, was in his own words, to spread “Mirth to the Earth”. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and always supported and encouraged all their endeavours. Jim and Jo Anne would like to express their profound thanks to: all their family and friends for their loving support and generous visits; to the nurses and doctors of the Rockyview Hospital, especially Unit 93, and Dr. Conrade, Dr. Lazerenko of the Emergency Ward; as well as their family doctor, Dr. C. Heimbach and the palliative nurses for their exceptional medical care. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (1414 Shawnessy Boulevard S.W.) on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
