I like others who worked at the Glenbow in the 70’s remember you as one always full of laughter.

When we had the Christmas Party out at Heritage Park as a social club, you and the Proctors were the light of the night.

Still remember you and your Louis Armstrong set. We all loved you and yes we will miss you.

Though we haven’t seen each other for sometime, when our paths did cross you were still the same ol’ Melvin.

I hope some of the old gang from Glenbow of the 70’s saw your passing in the Obituary. I am so sorry we can not be with you one more time to tell your family how much you did mean to us all. One last thing, Melvin, I am sure you will remember this. You came out your way to help Elaine and I move into our home on Bow Crescent along with a few other Glenbow friends in the tough lean times. Miss you Friend

Please accept our deepest sympathy in the loss of your Dad. Just thinking about Mr. Crump and family brings back fond memories.

I remember sitting around the kitchen table in your home on 1st Street on weekend mornings and listening and watching your Dad and Mom talk. I learned from your Dad that a smile, a laugh and a twinkle in one’s eyes went a long way in promoting positive discussions. But I still haven’t been able to work “Now Bea” into my skill set.

I remember Mr. Crump as a strong, gracious and respectful man. But I also remember Mr. Crump giving Marvin and I boxing lessons in your basement just in case. Obviously he was also a very practical man.

He will be missed.

I remember Mel as a true gentlemen! It’s probably been better than 20 years since I’ve seen Mel, but his cheery smile and positive attitude still brings a smile to my face. I dealt with Mel when I worked for Keen Kraft Music back in the early 70’s and used to enjoy it when Mel and his sidekicks would come into the store.

I work at the Glenbow Museum and I only met Melvin briefly when his drum kit was put on display in our Mavericks exhibition. He was a man that people wanted to be close to because of his beautiful smile and his warm and accepting disposition. He played for an opening party of Mavericks and it was obvious that he shined as a performer. To have been a part of his journey, even the small amout that I was, fills me with pride that I was able to meet this legend and share a bit of his kind and generous spirit. Rest well sweet prince.

Your mom and dad and my grandmother Elsie Fudge had so many laughs in the good old days. The last time I saw your dad and family was at the Glenbow Museum and what an honor for him and the family. Your dad will be sadly missed. I used to go and listen to him play and have a visit oh so many years ago. My condolences to the whole family and hope all of you are well

We are saddened to hear of the passing of our fellow musician who was a former Life Member of our organization prior to his retirement in the mid 90’s. Mel was certainly respected by all who knew him. Our condolences go out to the family of this truly remarkable man.

Melvin will never be forgotten or the years playing together. I have the live tapes and pictures to always remind me of a loving man who was always cheerful right to the end. Had trouble getting on site but were there. Marvin, Reene, Paul and entire family our true heartfelt condolences. Hazel Proctor and family as well send their caring along with mine. Your Dad was a joy to all who met him

I will greatly miss this wonderful man. I had the honor and privileged of working with him many times on movie sets here in Calgary. He was always sure to make me smile.

It is with sadness that I send my condolences to the family of Melvin Crump. He was my friend and co-musician who worked beside Larry and me in our band, since 1995, “The Larry Proctor Swingsters”. We sang, prayed, ate meals, and practised music together. Melvin was especially skilled at providing Latin American and other beats to the songs we performed in The Second Cup establishments, and at Senior Citizens Lodges. We were so happy to have his musical suggestions, such as “just do 100 songs and do them perfectly”. We will always honor his memory and I think it is lovely that a tree will be planted in Fish Creek Park in his name. I’ve enjoyed taking pictures of Melvin with our band, and one of the pictures I took is in the little movie being shown about Mel on the third floor of Glenbow Museum in the Mavericks section. It shows Bobby Van and Larry Proctor singing with Melvin in the Weaselhead Pub. SW Calgary. I was very excited to be able to play piano and sing with Mel’s percussion in my music partner Larry’s band for so long. It was a great learning experience, and he was a charming friend to all who met him. All good thoughts and prayers go to the soul of Melvin and may he rest in peace in the arms of Jesus, and sing and play drums in the Heavenly Choir of our hopes and Biblical promises. Let death be as peaceful as sleeping until Jesus comes again, as our spirits soar into His Love and Protection.

I was saddened to read of Mr Crump’s passing. I hope that Renee and Marvin will accept my condolences and know that we – the Hills family, Linda and Bill – think of them often and liked and respected Mr Crump very much.
