Obituary of MARTIN – John William

February 1, 1923 – November 2, 2009 Born February 1, 1923 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and proud of it, Jack passed away in Calgary on Monday, November 2, 2009, peacefully in the arms of Lillian (nee Huband), his one true love and best friend for sixty-five years. Besides his loving wife Lillian, Jack is also survived by his daughters, Janet (Jim), Karen (Tom) and Sheilah (Hersh); grandchildren, Andrea, Jody, Greg, Ashley, Rory, Sean, Shauna, Andrea Cori, Amanda, Eden, Glynnis, Shana, and Gavin; and fourteen great grandchildren. All grieve the loss of this greatly loved man. Never one to complain, Dad found only the best in us all. With sisters, Mary, Nell and Gabe, and their families in St. John’s, we will all miss Jack’s sense of humour, love of family and quiet gentle patience. Jack enlisted and served in the RCAF and graduated from McGill University after the war. He spent his working years in Montreal, retiring first to White Rock, BC for sea air, and later to Calgary to be near those he loved. He lived a full and loving life and battled Alzheimer’s and illness with his characteristic grace and tenacity. He touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. A Private Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at a later date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family is very grateful to the caring staff at CareWest Colonel Belcher and Foothills Hospital. In living memory of Jack Martin, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.
